The Drug Addiction
According to NME, after Demri Lara Parrott died in 1996, Staley fell into a deep melancholy and was put under a round-the-clock suicide watch.
After learning that no money had been withdrawn from Layne Stanley’s bank account in the preceding two weeks on April 19, 2002, Susan Silver, the singer’s former manager, began to wonder where Stanley may be.
The musician’s mother, Nancy McCallum, contacted 911 after she hadn’t heard from her son in two weeks out of concern for him.
Two days before his corpse was discovered, McCallum claims she went to his residence to tell him that Demri Parrott’s brother had passed away but received no response.
When she got a call two days later to see how her son was doing, she wasn’t surprised that Staley hadn’t replied.
There was some mail by his door. Sadie, a cat owned by Staley at the time, was typically quiet, so when McCallum heard Sadie meowing, he was concerned about Staley.
McCallum called 911 when Staley still hadn’t answered.
When the police, McCallum, and her ex-husband Jim Elmer visited Staley’s home, they discovered his half-decomposed body.
To identify the body, medical examiners had to check dental data.
